Collection: Smith Corona Typewriters

Smith Corona Typewriters for Sale.

Prior to the Smith brothers' significant contributions to the world of typewriters, they were engaged in the production of firearms. Observing that certain mechanical processes and manufacturing methods utilized in the firearms factory were similar to those being developed for typewriter production, Alexander T. Brown, an inventor associated with the brothers, presented his innovative mechanical typewriter design to them.

In 1886, Lyman Cornelius (LC) Smith, Wilbert Smith, Hurlbut W. (HW) Smith, and Monroe C. Smith established the Smith Premier Typewriter Company to manufacture Brown's progressive dual-case typewriter design.

Over the ensuing decades, the Smith brothers' typewriter enterprise underwent various reconfigurations and name changes. In 1926, L. C. Smith & Bros. merged with the Corona Typewriter Company. This merger combined LC Smith's robust office typewriters with Corona's widely favored portable models, positioning the new company as a leader in the industry and ensuring its profitability even during the challenging times of the Great Depression.
